Hang To candidate statement

My name is Hang To. I am running for Alternate Executive Committee Female. I came to America as a refugee in 1975 from Vietnam. I graduated from Clemson University with an engineering degree. I worked as industrial engineer for JP Stevens then worked at Charleston Naval Shipyard as a health physicist. When the shipyard was being closed, I went back to school and took accounting courses at College of Charleston and became a CPA in 1999.

I have volunteered for Greenville Rescue Mission for two years, cooked and served the residence there. I also was a counselor at Julie Valentine Center. I was an independent for many years. I never got involved in politics before and normally don’t debate people over politics. However, with the current administration, I feel like I need to get more involved in politics if I want things to change.

I am passionate about helping the working people and the poor. I think current administration is rewarding the rich over the expense of the middle class and the poor.

My family were upper middle class in Vietnam. We have maid and nanny. We went from that straight to the refugee camp where we stood in line for hours for food. A church in Greenville SC sponsored us. They found my Dad a job working for Michelin in quality control where he worked for 32 years until retiring. They helped us acclimate into society. If it wasn’t for all the selfless and kindness individuals my family would not be where we are now. That is why I believe in giving back to the community. I would like to make a difference and help others. This is why I am running for office and be more involve with the Democratic party.
