What’s work like for women returning to the workforce?

Women bore the brunt of job losses during the pandemic but they’re recovering faster than their male counterparts. In fact, workforce participation is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels for women, while men are lagging. The growth of remote working alternatives has been a big driver, especially for women with children.

But no matter the circumstances, women still face headwinds and challenges when returning to the workforce after a years-long hiatus. Like salary discrimination, time management, and negotiating the corporate culture – especially challenging as a remote employee.

Nichelle Harrison, our April guest speaker, understands these issues. As a WREN board member she supports the legislative work necessary to remove barriers to work – or prevent greater ones from being erected. But she’s also a business owner who specializes in working with women returning to the workforce and a director at the Center for Courage and Renewal. All have one thing at their center: Helping women grow and thrive, identify strengths, handle adversity, create the all-important work-life balance, and be their own advocates in all aspects of their lives. Nichelle puts it this way: “Workforce+Wellness+Wages. Map out a return-to-work process that levels up your negotiating skills while prioritizing your well being.”
