The Unsung Heroes of DWGC

Dem Women is the sum of all its parts and we want to take a moment to mention some of the people who contribute regularly to our efforts – largely unheralded but so important.

Paula Catterall who a decade ago suggested the idea of a social coffee and when no one jumped on it, she did it. It’s been a staple of Dem Women since then, bringing in new people every month. And Charlotte Abrams, who became Paula’s formal co-host two years ago.

Ruth Burley, who many of you know as a fine local artist, but you may not know that she is the primary moderator of our discussion page on Facebook. This is a thankless task that gets little attention, but Ruth takes it seriously and I am grateful for her diligence and consistency in this important communication role!

And there are the people who help out every month to make the meetings go as smoothly as possible. They are (in absolutely no order): Janet Lomicka, Marilyn Linder, Kathleen Bitsura, Deb Grove, Ann Thompson, Mary Biebel, Susan Stewart, Mary Snell, Elizabeth Ard, Dona Styron, Julie Mills, and Eve Powell.

As part of our outreach efforts we started two social events in 2023 and they continue to go strong. Liz Jordan is stepping up this year to host Cocktails and Conversation, with Julia Rowling and Teri Morton backing her up. And Kitty Hodinga is going to lead the Book Club with Debbie Otto Sunderman backing her up.

And a special thank you to Sadie Carter, who has been committed to DWGC for years. She’s been the front person on the 50-50 raffle and the unsung hero who would print, fold, and mail the Donkeys Tale to our members who weren’t quite ready for digital.

Thank you to all who volunteer, advocate, work for candidates, or help our Democratic efforts in any way throughout the year.
