Ruth Todd candidate statement

I am Ruth Todd, and I would love to be your 1st Vice Chair of the GCDP. I have been very active in the Democratic Party all my life, and since moving to Travelers Rest in 2015, I have gotten more involved locally.  Soon after moving, I joined the Democratic Women of Greenville County (DWGC) and began volunteering for campaigns. In 2016 I became a Precinct President and a State Delegate.  As a Cluster Lead for Precinct Development, I am proud of the progress made for reorganization—in the precincts I have managed each one now has a President and a Delegate. In fact, most now have all their delegate positions filled.

In 2017, I was devastated when Trump won, so I traveled to DC on the Greenville bus for the 1st Women’s March.  Upon returning, I organized an activist group to visit the Senator’s Offices weekly and we have persisted for over three years. In 2018, I also helped with the logistics of the Women’s March in Greenville.  Another contribution I made was to offer my professional photography expertise to help candidates in need of campaign portraits– giving them as an in-kind donation. Also, I have given my photography services to the GCDP when needed.

In January 2018, I started the North Greenville County Democrats (NGCD) to get people in the northern part of the county more involved. It worked. Our group has helped several candidates, and we have successfully flipped precincts that have never had a Democratic challenger! As chair of the NGCD in 2018, I also co-managed Judi Buckley’s campaign for SC Statehouse 17. We built a group of fantastic volunteers. These volunteers had never been involved in a campaign before, and currently 90% remain involved, not only with the NGCD, but also with the Greenville Co party.  In our North Greenville meetings, we encouraged all representatives with Presidential candidates to attend, and we hosted some of the actual Presidential candidates themselves!  We set up a booth at the Travelers Rest Art crawl to distribute candidate information and to register voters.   Additionally, we hosted a separate forum for the representatives of the Presidential Candidates.

In 2019, I joined the board of the DWGC as 2nd VP of Membership. We have been working hard to support local candidates, engage and grow our membership, and become more visible in the community. I want to help grow the GCDP and the Democratic Party, and I believe that I have the skills and determination to do this. Please consider voting for me as your 1st Vice Chair of the GCDP.  I promise I will work hard to make change in Greenville County.  Our time has come!
