DESCRIPTION:Unity Health on Main is a community-led health center serving the Medically Underserved Area (MUA) of Greenville County. It provides culturally competent\, client-driven pediatric and comprehensive primary care services. With more than 70\,000 residents lacking access to affordable healthcare in the Greenville County area\, UHM was developed to reduce area health disparities and inequities. \nRecently\, UHM lost federal funding due to the use of words like “women” and “diverse” in their grant applications. Now\, without significant help from the community\, Unity Health is at risk of having to close their doors\, leaving thousands in our Greenville community without adequate health care. \nUnity Health on Main is committed to providing accessible\, culturally-competent healthcare to all in Greenville County\, and we\, the Greenville Progressive Coalition\, are committed to supporting them. SUMMARY:Why Can't We Close the Charleston Loophole?
DESCRIPTION:This month marks the 10th anniversary of the killing of nine parishioners at Mother Emanuel AME church as they gathered for a prayer service. Year after year\, legislation to close what has come to be called the Charleston loophole\, a bureaucratic rule that enabled the killer to obtain a weapon he would otherwise have been denied\,  is introduced and every year it goes nowhere. In fact\, there’s never even been a hearing. \nDem Women is sponsoring a Town Hall on June 24 on the Charleston Loophole and other affirmative legislation like the hate crime bill. We want your voices to be heard: the voices of survivors\, the voices of parents who worry every time they drop their kids off at school. We know you have questions and we want to try and get some answers. We have invited the entire Greenville Legislative delegation to join us. We’ll also have  a couple of powerful guest speakers. \nAttendance is free but registration is requested.

Clementa Pinckney was killed in the attack; Representatives Chandra Dillard and Wendell Jones — have committed to attend. \nWe also have two featured speakers: \n\nMalcolm Graham\, whose sister – Cynthia Hurd – was killed at Mother Emanuel will tell the story of his family’s journey.\nMelody McFadden is a survivor of multiple gun violence incidents that took the lives of her family and friends. DESCRIPTION:Tastings on the Town is the Greenville County Democratic Party’s signature event of the year. Yes\, it is a fundraiser. But it’s also an opportunity to come together with Democrats from across the county\, from leaders to candidates to volunteers. This year\, we need this community more than ever. \nThis year we will honor immediate past chair Amanda McDougald Scott for her years of service to our Party. \nWe have a wide range of catering sponsors. Just a taste of the variety you can expect: Persis Indian Grill\, Todaro Pizza\, Travinia\, Aryana Afghan Cuisine\, Hall’s Chophouse\, Old Europe Desserts\, Chef Stephanie Bolden + Co.\, Ristorante Bergamo\, Big D’s Baked Goods\, and Sum Bar. More are being added daily. \nWe have a range of sponsorship and ticket prices and the option to sign up for your ticket online but pay by check (saving the cost of the processing fees). Sponsor checks must be received by the GCDP office no later than June 8 at 9 p.m. in order to appear in our brochure and other materials. General Admission tickets being paid for by check must be received by June 23 at 2 p.m. \nYoung Democrats receive a 50 percent discount on the General Admission ticket. A discount code is required. DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday at 2 p.m.\, join the South Greenville Democrats as they protest the actions of the Trump Administration with a rally along the Gateway Bridge in Mauldin. \nProtest this Sunday (and every Sunday) on the bridge over 385 at Bridgeway Station from 2-3pm\n1000 Via Corso Ave\, Simpsonville\, SC 29681.\n\nOrganizer has a “protest permit” and the awareness/permission of the Mauldin City police.\n\nThemes: Anti-Nazi\, Anti-Kings\, Pro-US Constitution. Bring signs with writing large enough to be seen from the highway. Restrictions: Allow pedestrian traffic and do not attach signs to the fence on the bridge.\n\nThere is NO restriction on the number of people. Come one\, come all.
