For Republicans, smart, talented, hardworking women are the enemy

Well, we have made it through 112 days of the Trump Administration. That means we only have to listen to — theoretically — the most powerful person in the world say “I Don’t Know” for 1300+ more days.

  • Are we planning to deport immigrants to a prison in Libya? I don’t know, ask Homeland Security.
  • Has anyone in the administration actually talked to Kilmar Abrego Garcia? I don’t know, ask the attorney general.
  • Do you have any feeling about Russia being banned from competing in the World Cup in 2026? I didn’t know anything about it.
  • How about tariff exemptions floated by Treasury Secretary Bessent on certain household goods? You guessed it. I don’t know.
  • What about JD Vance saying he thinks Russia is asking for too much from Ukraine? I don’t know he said that… he may know some things… Thank God.. someone should.
  • This is just in one week. And it started with a mind blower when Kristen Welker posed this question to the president on Meet the Press. “ Don’t you need to uphold the Constitution of the United States as president.” What did he say? “I don’t know. BUT I’ve got great lawyers working on it.”

You’ve just got to wonder who, if anyone, is sailing the ship of state here. I can only imagine how far off their crackers the far right media would fall if Joe Biden’s answers to every question had been “I don’t know”. But we seem fine with having a bystander-in-chief making proclamations on water flow, the number of toys appropriate per child in order to serve the state, and the importance of women having lots and lots of children.

So important that he’s got a plan and what a great one it is too. If you have just six children, you will receive a presidential medal AND as an added benefit you’ll get a $5000 birth benefit each time. Wow. Paying women to have children sounds a little Handmaid’s tale-like to me.

And I say Big Whoop!

What a sport – a medal and one-time check. That shows how important women are to this administration.

The same administration that has taken away basic health care and sat back watching while women across the country have struggled and, in many tragic cases, died.

The same administration that is planning potential cuts to Medicaid that will severely impact women and families, reducing if not eliminating SNAP benefits among other cuts.

The same administration that is eliminating the jobs of thousands of federal employees who it says benefitted from Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs. Oh, no! Not women in the workplace. They would include a medical researcher on the verge of making a significant cancer discovery, a vice admiral who has served for 38 years including combat service, a helicopter pilot, the first woman president of the Naval War College and a masters degree from Harvard. Obviously unqualified.

And it’s not just the Trump administration, its Republicans in general. In 2021, the Democratic majority US House passed the build back better legislation that included an expanded child care tax credit. In one year, that lifted 50 percent of children in the US out of poverty. In 2022, that bill came up for renewal and to make it permanent. Every single republican voted against it and 15.3 million families with children once again fell back into poverty.

That’s how Trump and the Republican party feel about women. We are not worthy of good jobs, not worthy of risking our lives for our country, not worthy of having the basic rights guaranteed to all Americans by the Constitution – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Oh, but then again, Trump doesn’t know much about the constitution. And apparently less about women.
