Wear Orange Day Walk Relay

June 5, 2020 @ 9:00 am

Wear Orange is always the first weekend in June. That’s the day that Moms Demand Action honors those killed by gun violence and brings awareness to this public health issue.

In the past, the event has been a rally in downtown Greenville, but this year, the organization is doing a relay walk to enable participants to show their colors while staying at a safe distance. The Orange Relay Walk starts in Greenville at 9 a.m. on Laurens Road, and makes its way through Mauldin and Simpsonville, concluding in Fountain Inn. The organization set this route because there are sidewalks for all of the nine mile walk.

Email Darlene Ham at MIsurvivorteam2@everytown.org and tell her how far you want to walk. She’ll email you back with your route, starting and ending locations.

Whether you have been impacted by gun violence, or someone you know has, or you are concerned about the proliferation of mass shooting events in our country, you can take part in several different ways.

  • Please take a picture of yourself, your family, friends, neighbors, wearing ORANGE and post on social media with #WearOrange2020.
  • Send pictures of your walk to Darlene at MIsurvivorteam2@everytown.org and post online #WearOrange2020.
  • Paint a rock orange with white 2020 letters and a name of someone killed by gun violence. You can place this rock anywhere you would like to bring awareness to gun violence.

Note: You must email MIsurvivorteam2@everytown.org to get your starting location.
