Breaking the News Film Screening and Discussion sponsored by The Riley Institute at Furman

Join the Riley Institute and South Carolina ETV on Monday Feb. 12th from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Burgiss Theatre in the Trone Student Center at Furman University for an exclusive pre-screening of Breaking the News

This documentary follows a scrappy, diverse group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists banding together to launch The 19th*, a digital news start-up aiming to amplify voices and perspectives left out of American mainstream media coverage (preview below).

A discussion will follow the film screening, hosted by South Carolina ETV and Public Radio President and CEO Adrienne Fairwell and featuring Furman Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence and Professor of Communication Studies Dr. Cynthia King and Investigative Reporter and Content Coach with The Greenville News and Spartanburg Herald-Journal Kathryn Casteel.
