Eric Graben candidate statement

I am Eric Graben, and I am running for Alternate Male State Executive Committee Representative.  I have been involved in the Democratic Party in South Carolina for over a decade, and I am running to use my experience and connections to strengthen Greenville’s voice in the State party and help get Democrats elected in South Carolina.  I was Kate Franch’s predecessor as Chair of the Greenville County Democratic Party from March 2012 to March 2016, and I ran for the 4th District US House seat in the Democratic primary in 2018.    I also served for several years on the SCDP rules committee for the state convention, and I ran for Greenville City Council against Amy Doyle in 2008.  In my day job I am a corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions partner at the Wyche law firm, which I joined after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1997.  I also hold a PhD in foreign policy from the University of Virginia and taught at Clemson before going to law school, and I am also a Clemson alumnus (BS Physics 1986).  I served six years on the Board of Commissioners of the Greenville Housing Authority and six years on the Board of the Urban League of the Upstate, and I am in my 6th year of service on the Board of Pendleton Place.  I have served as a pro bono guardian ad litem for numerous children in DSS abuse and neglect cases since 1998, and I have been a mentor to children and young adults since I was in law school in the mid-1990s.  My oldest mentees are now in their mid-30s and so I now have several “grand mentees.”  I have been married to my wife Helen for 32 years, and I am proud that she and both of my adult children, Harrison (22) and Elizabeth (20), are avid Democrats.
