Crunching the numbers

I love math! Numbers tell a story and lead to informed solutions. (Gosh, you think we can convince our lawmakers of this??)

Naturally one of my early thoughts was: “How are we doing?”, financially that is. For starters, I wanted to know if we were covering the cost of our lunch meeting. I knew we didn’t want to be in business to buy lunch for ourselves; we had more important things to do.

As I reviewed our current situation, it became obvious that we in fact were NOT covering our lunch costs; we would only cover our costs with a large crowd both attending AND eating. About 125+ folks each month. While we have been having exceptional attendance of late, the number of folks not eating ensures we’re not breaking even.

So…. I guess you see where this is going.

Yes, sad to say, we see it’s necessary to increase lunch price to $17. As much as we hate to. But I think we can all agree that we’d like to be doing things such as helping the Dem Party defray office expenses each month rather than coming out of pocket for lunch.

We have also discussed asking those who attend but do not eat to make a $5 donation. We don’t want to deter people from coming but that group has costs attached to it as well. Give us your thoughts!

On another note…

There has been endless discussion of the meeting time and how it dissuades people who want to come from attending our meetings. Many working women can’t make a lunchtime meeting while another group avoids driving after dark. Is there that illusive sweet spot??? We’ve got a quick survey you can take to help us find options that can accommodating everyone – at least some of the time.

Exciting meeting March 11…

We’re very excited to welcome Jaime Harrison to our March meeting!! Jaime served as the Chair of the SCDP from 2013 to 2017 and is currently an associate chairman of the Democratic National Committee. We are thrilled he is exploring the possibility of challenging Lindsey Graham in 2020 and can’t wait to hear what he has to say!

Reserve your seat online!

See you then!
