Rallies and boycotts are great, but the rubber hits the road when we speak to our elected officials.

We’ve encouraged you to download the app 5 Calls to assist in consistent and relentless outreach to our federal officials.

Indivisible Upstate is organizing a large and continuous effort to disrupt the offices of our federal elected officials: Senators Lindsay Graham, Tim Scott, and Representative William Timmons.

The activity involves flooding their offices one day each week for the foreseeable future by going to the office to speak to staff . You will make your voice heard and disrupt the normal operations. Indivisible had a very successful trip to Lindsey Graham’s office with 94 people attending this week.

Boycott Target, support minority businesses. Pastor Jamal Bryant of Georgia is calling for a 40-day fast (or boycott) of Target during Lent (March 5 – April 17) to protest the company’s decision to end its DEI initiatives. The goal is for 100,000 people to pledge their support at targetfast.org, where participants can also find resources to support Black-owned businesses and vendors. This movement, backed by the Black Chamber of Commerce, offers access to over 300,000 Black businesses nationwide. I challenge all Greenville County Democratic Party members to take action — let’s use our economic power to demand justice and real change!

Let’s match our words with our actions, and do something! I hope each of you, with a conscience, will join in and support. I am excited, and I hope you are also, about the possibility of us being able to join in a larger movement that can have impact outside of the boundaries of our county. Let’s go to work!

– Jonathon Sweeney, former GCDP 1st vice president
