If my political soulmate, the man to whom I had been groveling for most of my career, were going off the rails talking about ‘childless cat ladies,’ pet-eating immigrants in Ohio and his hatred of pop-icon Taylor Swift, I guess I’d be campaigning elsewhere other than my home state too.
I mean who wants to defend such absurd stuff at home when you can be padding your radical-right resume campaigning around the country for your deranged hero? Right…?
William Timmons has gone AWOL from the district he is supposed to serve and gone plumb weird on the nonsense he is spouting in Trump’s behalf. It’s embarrassing. Most members of Congress nowadays spend almost all their time in DC. While the notion of the ‘permanent campaign’ is regrettably real and gives rise to a life detached from the people that a member is supposed to serve, the run-up to an election is supposed to be a time when a member comes back home.
Home, to listen to their constituents and understand their hopes, desires, complaints and problems.
Home, to sort out the issues in their district.
Home, to honor the voters whose support he or she counts on.
Not ‘Weird William.’
Nope, being the sycophant that he is, ‘Weird William’ is state-trotting elsewhere supporting Trump. He should be here – listening, responding, engaging in debate and letting the good folks of the 4th Congressional District know what he is going to do to make life better HERE… not in Kentucky or Ohio or Pennsylvania… or wherever he is.
Timmons recently said, “ I will be spending as much, if not more of, my time campaigning in districts I do know know the outcome of…” Really? Translation, “I got this in the bag so y’all can sort your own stuff out while I waltz around the country.” There is no debate about the ‘redness’ of South Carolina or the 4th Congressional District. Running in Greenville, Spartanburg and Union counties is an uphill battle for any Democratic candidate. To do so takes courage and conviction, two qualities that Timmons has demonstrated he does not possess.
Kathryn Harvey, on the other hand, is hard at work in the district every day: Meeting with constituents, listening to the issues on the minds of local business owners, listening to teachers, educating people on the dangers posed by Timmons and those of his ilk who would strip women of the right to control their own bodies.
She is registering people to vote in THIS election, instead of spouting a worn-out, thoroughly disproven narrative that the LAST election was stolen. Harvey is hard at work here. Timmons is, well, campaigning elsewhere. It is consistent with his arrogance that he takes the voters of the 4th Congressional District for granted. It’s time to turn Timmons out.
We deserve better.
Vote Kathryn Harvey for Congress.
